Summary

EU Deforestation Regulation: products containing cattle, cocoa, coffee, oil palm, rubber, soya or wood (or derived products such as leather, chocolate, furniture, paper) placed on or exported from the EU market must be deforestation-free, produced legally in the country of origin, and covered by a due-diligence statement.

Scope

Scope (Art. 1): Applies to the placing on the Union market and the export from the Union of relevant commodities and products listed in Annex I - cattle, cocoa, coffee, oil palm, rubber, soya, wood - and derived products (leather, chocolate, furniture, pulp and paper, rubber tyres, etc.). Operators and traders in the supply chain are covered. Products already placed on the market before 29 June 2023 are exempt (Art. 5).

Obligations for the manufacturer

  • Due-diligence statement per relevant product (Art. 4)
  • Geolocation of all plots of land of production (Art. 9)
  • Risk assessment and mitigation measures (Art. 10)
  • Annual reporting and record-keeping (Art. 12)
