Applies to all batteries placed on the EU market, including those incorporated into appliances and vehicles (Art. 1). Key dates: carbon footprint (EV/LMT from 2025-2026), removable/replaceable portable batteries (Art. 11, from 18 Feb 2027), CE marking.
Obligations for the manufacturer
- ▸ Affix CE marking and prepare technical documentation
- ▸ Apply label/marking requirements (capacity, chemistry, separate-collection symbol)
- ▸ Design products so portable batteries are removable/replaceable by end-users (Art. 11, from 2027)
- ▸ Provide carbon footprint declaration (EV/LMT batteries, phased from 2025)
