Summary

REACH governs chemicals in the EU: registration, restrictions (Annex XVII), authorisation and SVHC communication.

Scope

Applies to chemical substances, mixtures and substances in articles placed on the EU market (Art. 2). Key duties for product suppliers: comply with Annex XVII restrictions; communicate SVHCs in articles above 0.1% w/w (Art. 33); register substances at 1+ t/y (Art. 6).

Obligations for the manufacturer

• ▸ Register substances produced/imported at 1+ t/y (Art. 6, 7)
• ▸ Comply with Annex XVII restrictions for substances in articles
• ▸ Communicate SVHCs in articles above 0.1% w/w along the supply chain (Art. 33)
• ▸ Provide safety data sheets for hazardous substances/mixtures
